Dior: a three-episode documentary about essences

I’m in love with « The Search for Essences », a Dior three-episode documentary about the quest of essences of their fragrances. Each film is a journey to a material, a land of inspiration, punctuated by meetings and exchanges around traditions and know-how. So poetic, beautiful and informative <3

Take this trip with me and watch them!

[Episode 1]
MAYFLOWER IN GRASSE

« The Mayflower is the queen of flowers from Grasse cradle. We must ensure that expertise is not diluted. » François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator

The first one is about Mayflower in Grasse, a unparalleled flower and Dior perfumer-creator François Demachy knows it. Having been brought up in the area, he knows the value of this flower endowed with a powerful fragrance that has become extremely rare. For Dior, Demachy found two people who shared a passion for the unique terroir of Grasse, where sea and mountain act to allow spring flowers with exceptional features. The « Domaine de Manon », under the direction of Carole Biancalana, and the « Clos de Callian », to Armelle Janody. Together they devote 100% of their crop to Dior.

[Episode 2]
BERGAMOT OF CALABRIA

« Go to Calabria is to feel the reality of a region, be inspired by the beauty of the plantations. » François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator

The Calabrian bergamot is one of the iconic essences used in Dior fragrances. Found in all the perfumes of the maison, it is essential for olfactory structure. A true national treasure of Italy, Bergamot was born in a land embedded between the Ionian Sea and the Aspromonte slopes. Spicy, floral and fruity – this Bergamot has no equal.

[Episode 3]
JASMINE OF INDIA

« We can not understand India if we do not understand people’s passion for flowers.  » François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator

In South India, jasmine plantations stretch as far as the eye can see, punctuated by silhouettes of flower pickers working. Two varieties of this « flower of the gods » grow here: Jasmine Sambac and Jasmine grandiflorum. As beautiful as unique, Jasmine Sambac is powerful and having been used by maison Dior since the first time 20 years ago to create « J’adore ». The jasmine grandiflorum, more classical and solar, lends its delicate fragrance composition of Miss Dior.
